Across hair transplant, dental treatment and cosmetic surgery, the single biggest factor in a safe, satisfying outcome is which clinic and which surgeon you choose — not the country, and not the specific technique's brand name. Use this checklist before you pay any deposit.
1. Is the surgeon board-certified?
Ask for the specific board or professional body certifying the surgeon or dentist, in their relevant specialty, and verify it independently rather than relying on a clinic's website.
2. Will they personally perform the procedure?
Get a clear, direct answer about who performs which parts of your treatment — the lead surgeon/dentist, an associate, or a technician. This should never be a vague or evasive answer.
3. Is the facility accredited?
Look for recognized accreditation (such as JCI or an equivalent national body) and confirm exactly what it covers — a hospital's accreditation doesn't automatically extend to every clinic operating nearby.
4. Can you verify the before/after photos?
Ask for cases with a starting point similar to your own, and be cautious of galleries that can't be traced to real, identifiable outcomes.
5. What is the complication or revision policy?
Get in writing what happens if something doesn't go as planned — does the clinic offer a free or discounted revision, and for how long after the original procedure?
6. Is a professional medical translator available?
Clear communication during consultation, the procedure itself, and aftercare instructions is essential. Confirm a qualified translator (not just a sales staff member) will be present when needed.
7. What exactly is included in the price?
Clarify whether flights, accommodation, transfers, medication and follow-up visits are included, or billed separately — quotes that look similar on the surface can differ substantially once you account for exclusions.
8. What is the realistic recovery timeline?
Ask for a written, procedure-specific recovery timeline, and build your travel dates around it rather than fitting the medical timeline around a fixed flight home.
9. How will follow-up care work once you're home?
Understand what support is available remotely, whether return travel is ever required to honor a warranty or complication policy, and identify a physician in your home country who can monitor your recovery.
10. Can you speak to a genuine past patient?
Many reputable clinics can connect you with a previous patient (with their consent) or point you to independently verifiable reviews — not just testimonials curated on their own website.
Working through these ten questions won't guarantee a perfect outcome, but it will surface the clinics that are transparent, well-run and confident in their own standards — and it will quickly expose the ones that aren't.
